I decided around the time that I upgraded the Clausing lathe to the bigger Birmingham 12X36 gunsmithing lathe that I wanted a digital readout.  Several weeks of research got me to the point that I had all but ruled out the cheap chinese units that could be had for under $300.  I wanted to have scales that could be shortened to best fit the machine and were as debris proof as possible.  Plus, I only wanted to buy the system once.  I had looked at the systems sold by Shars and then came across the Electronica system sold by DRO Pros in California.   Priced around $650 to $1000 depending on the readout head and type of scales it was my decision to go with this brand.  Warranty is up to 6 years depending on the scales chosen, company was based in CONUS, they answered the phones and I could understand them, all plusses.  Don't get me wrong I have had lots of dealings with off shore support and few if any problems once you got past the initial cookbook of steps they tend to use.  I just like the fact that these people are on our side of the pond and respond to calls and emails.  When I was checking into the system I sent an email on a Sunday afternoon and surprisingly got a reply.  Above and beyond to say the least...

I chose the two axis system with the magnetic scales and the Lathe Specific readout.  They discounted the system due to the online Internet Special they had listed and it was ordered on a Monday morning and arrived mid day on Thursday.  I was really tempted to call in sick on Friday...

While I am still learning the  ins and outs of the DRO (generally and specific to this model) and have yet to make any "real" parts I am quite impressed with the choice I made.
